Find your internship site!

Before graduating from CMU, all undergraduate students are required to complete a 30 week internship experience. To assist you in finding an appropriate internship and internship site location, the Center for Leisure Services has compiled information into two spreadsheets.

How do I use the database?
Click on the link for your recreation concentration from the box on the right, enter your CMU Global ID and password, and the database file will download to your computer. Open up the downloaded file, and browse away!

What are these database?
The database files are Microsoft Excel documents (.xls) which can be opened on any Windows or Macintosh computer with Microsoft Excel installed, or any spreadsheet program capable of viewing Microsoft Excel files (such Apple's iWork Numbers, Quattro Pro, or OpenOffice). The files contain internship site locations, contact information, and descriptions of the kinds of internships those sites can offer.

What if I don't have Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet program on my computer?
You can download the file, and then open it using Google Documents & Spreadsheets from within your web browser. You won't get all the nifty filtering and sorting features, but you'll still be able to view all the information in the file.

How do I find what I want?
One way is just to browse through the file. If you know a specific term or word you're looking for, use the "Find" feature of Excel (from the menu bar at the top, choose "Edit" -> "Find"). You can also use the handy drop-down menus at the top of each column to filter the set to see only what you want:

Click the drop down menu at the top of each column to filter on the content you wish to see.

How do I get it back so I can see everything again?
From the menu bar, choose "Data" -> "Filter" -> "Show All" and any filters will be removed, and you'll be able to see everything again. See the image below:

Choose Data, then Filter, then Show All to remove any applied filters.

I messed up something! What do I do?
If it's something simple, choosing "Edit" -> "Undo" from the menu bar in Excel might fix the problem. If the problem is something much bigger, then delete your corrupted version of the database from your computer, and download a new copy.

What else can I do with the database (besides viewing it)?
You could use it to set up a mail merge in Microsoft Word to create custom letters for contacting the internship sites you're interested in. If you're not sure how to do a mail merge, then read Microsoft's Mail Merge Walk-Through.

Why do you need my CMU Global ID and password?
These internship resources are exclusively for Central Michigan University students, so we needed a way to ensure that only CMU students could access them. Don't worry, we're not collecting or intercepting your personal information, and all authentication is being done by the same secure system that handles your CMU web mail and portal access.
