Each year, the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services Administration has a scholarship competition offering the following sources of financial aid.
- Ron and Susan Bacon Outdoor Recreation Award
Established in 2006 by Ron and Susan Bacon in honor of their parents, Ronald and Sophia Bacon, the income from the endowment supports a scholarship for a junior or senior enrolled in the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services with a major in outdoor recreation.
- William Brehm Tourism Scholarship
Established in 2007 by the Board of Directors for the Mount Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to honor Mr. Brehm for his dedication to the tourism industry in Isabella County, this is for CMU juniors with a GPA of 3:00 or greater who are majoring in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services Administration, Public Relations, or Marketing and Hospitality.
- Circle Michigan – Tough Tourism Times
In 2009, sponsors Circle Michigan and the RPL Department offered this scholarship opportunity to RPL students and groups asking for the best industry solution for “tough tourism times” in the upcoming summer season. For industry professionals, each applicant made a 10-minute presentation focusing on solutions and suggestions for a resort or attraction in Michigan.
- G. Patrick Doyle Prize
Established in 1990 in honor of Pat Doyle, a former educator and friend of students in the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services Administration, this is for students who will be engaged in the internship portion of their program during the calendar year of the scholarship award.
- Donald F. Lutz Prize
Established in 1993 in honor of Donald Lutz, an educational leader who initiated the facility and park planning courses at CMU, this is for graduate students who have had demonstrable leadership experiences and who exhibit the potential for outstanding leadership in the profession
- Becky McCann Scholarship
Established in 2000 by students and professors in honor of Becky McCann, a CMU professor who showed tremendous leadership in the recreation profession, this award is given to the person who best answers two essay questions: 1) As a student, what aspects of leadership do you feel are most beneficial in the parks and recreation profession? and, 2) As a leader, what can you bring to the profession of parks and recreation?
- Agnes B. Rainwater Award
Established in 1994 in honor of Aggie Rainwater, a former educator who dedicated herself to improving the quality and academic standards of the RPL graduate program, this is for graduate students who choose the thesis scholarly option.
- RPL Department Scholarship
Established in 1988 by the department, this award recognizes outstanding students within the RPL curriculum
